Massive Monster Creative Director Julian Wilton has revealed that a crossover between Cult of the Lamb and Among Us was in development but was put on hold due to story complications.
During our interview with the studio co-founder, we asked about any plans for future crossovers with other indie titles, to which Julian replied, “We’re always open to it. We were actually working on an Among Us one for a while and put some work into that. But it gets a little tricky because it needs to make sense in the world.”
Wilton goes on to state that it might be thematically jarring for players if an alien spaceship suddenly landed in the middle of their camp, which is entirely true; there’s still hope that this partnership might come to pass. “We would still like to do it one day, but we were trying to figure out how it works because if an alien spaceship lands, it opens up the world a lot, and I think our writer would get quite annoyed.”
So you’re saying there’s a chance?
The hesitation is completely justified, particularly when you look at how widely popular the roguelike cult sim has become. Community reception is clearly important to Julian and the entire Massive Monster team, as he stated, “Now we’re kind of at a point where if we do things that the community doesn’t think aligns with what the game is, then we’re going to get in trouble with them as well.”
We had a fantastic chat with Julian, and you can watch the entire interview here:
We love Cult of the Lamb, giving it a rare 10 in our review, saying, “Cult of the Lamb stands as a true masterpiece of not one but two genres. I just couldn’t find any issues that got in the way of my enjoyment of its various mechanics, and the love I have for my clan will continue long past the final boss encounter.”
