Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin Releases Game Overview Trailer

Featuring co-op, a map editor and more

Frontier’s Warhammer-flavoured strategy game, Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin, has dropped a super girthy game overview trailer to spell out all the awesome features players can expect when the game releases in November.

Firstly, the game looks stunning – it’s an exceptional representation of the Age of Sigmar tabletop experience (albeit with painted models, the true fantasy) with awesome characters clashing within the landscape.

But then they ramp things up with a wicked range of cool features – such as a Map Editor, Army Painter and even a Sandbox Mode to play with all the radical troops in the game.

The poor strategy genre has been an unloved beast for a long while – so seeing a game like this launch with a fully supported (and lovingly fleshed out) map editor is nothing short of stunning. It feels like an aeon since a game took the time to really appreciate the opportunities offered by such a thing, so consider me quite excited.

Then the Livery Editor is sure to plug right into the veins of any Warhammer fan – being able to customise and field an army to your liking is a massive part of the tabletop fantasy, so it makes sense to see it here. Sadly I can assume they are not daring enough to include an icon editor; if only because I can assume they know people can be trusted. The Stormcast Lords of the DiqenBalz Enclave will not be marching forth this day.

There is also a clarification on how the game offers it’s campaign details – with a full narrative story on display, alongside a more ad-hoc generative campaign option to promote replayability. I am hugely keen to jump into co-op, because the only thing better than crushing the skulls of your enemies is doing it with your mates.

I also noticed that they are clear to say the game has four epic factions, but they only list three – so we still have some surprises in store. I wonder who the last faction will be – and sincerely hope it is lizard people.

Frontier Developments looks to be firing on all cylinders with this one, so keep your paint-covered fingers ready for when it releases on November 18.
