A shiny new gameplay trailer for Tintin Reporter – Cigars of the Pharaoh has dropped ahead of the game’s release next month. Looking like a charming melding of the original comic book art style and Steven Spielberg’s criminally underrated 2011 film, Cigars of the Pharaoh is gearing up for its November 7th launch by showing off an array of gameplay sections that give us our best look yet at what we can expect to be doing on this colourful little romp. In the trailer, which you can and should check out below, we see our intrepid twink Tintin thrown into several gameplay sections, covering everything from stealth exploration, combat, and of course, puzzle solving.
From the looks of things, gameplay will be pretty cinematic at times, especially when it comes to combat. In the sequences shown here, it appears as if encounters with nefarious thugs and ne’er-do-wells will likely be quick-time prompted and make use of changing camera styles to enhance the old back and forth. Elsewhere we see a handful of vehicle segments that the trailer boasts as a good chance to test our reflexes; here, Tintin and comrades narrowly avoid obstacles and dangers in cars and planes, all era-appropriate of course. And it wouldn’t be much of a Tintin adventure without some good old-fashioned deductive skills, this adventure looks to throw the lad into tombs that require on-the-spot puzzle solving with things like pattern recognition and basic image alignments.
It strikes us as incredibly charming, Tintin itself is a property that exudes nostalgia and that intangible, old-timey warmth. French developer/publisher Microids has teamed up with Tintinimaginatio, a company founded to preserve the classic works of author Hergé, whose The Adventures of Tintin series has sold over 245 million copies worldwide. This latest game is based on one of the most famous stories of the same name and will follow Tintin and his dog Snowy as they attempt to uncover an ancient mystery and just broadly be merry and do soft-crimes.
If this looks the goods to you, you can nab yourself a Limited Edition which includes a physical copy of the game, a steelbook, and a set of three postcards.
Tintin Reporter – Cigars of the Pharoah will release on November 7 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. A Nintendo Switch version is set for release in 2024.
