Sony has made a very short and sharp statement today to address the recent shitstorm that has permeated Helldivers 2 of late.
Simply put: “Ok, sure, we won’t be doing that.”
Helldivers fans -- we’ve heard your feedback on the Helldivers 2 account linking update. The May 6 update, which would have required Steam and PlayStation Network account linking for new players and for current players beginning May 30, will not be moving forward.

We’re still…
It says as much as it needs to:
Helldivers fans — we’ve heard your feedback on the Helldivers 2 account linking update. The May 6 update, which would have required Steam and PlayStation Network account linking for new players and for current players beginning May 30, will not be moving forward.
We’re still learning what is best for PC players and your feedback has been invaluable. Thanks again for your continued support of Helldivers 2 and we’ll keep you updated on future plans.
And that feedback is more than loud enough, considering the game has well over 250,000 negative reviews on the Steam store as of this time of writing.
So the outcome is effectively what people wanted – the PSN requirement will not go ahead. However, there is still a question regarding the restoration of purchases in countries that ended up blocked from buying the game. Now that the PSN debacle is safely in the bin, one would assume that this can all be cleaned up.
Over on the Helldivers 2 subreddit a call has now been put out for players to head back to Steam and perhaps change their reviews back to a positive one, to reflect the positive outcome:
Considering the immense coordination of the initial review bomb (or Hellbomb, to stay in character) it should speak volumes to see if the passionate player base can break further records by seeing how quickly a game can change from an ‘Overwhelmingly Negative’ review response to a positive one.
Liberty speed your step, Helldiver.
Did you leave a negative review for Helldivers 2? Are you speeding off to amend it now the problem has been resolved? Let us know in the comments or on social media.
