The PS5 Is Getting A Price Increase In Australia

Hope you have a spare pineapple laying about

Sony has tonight announced that the PS5 will receive a price increase in a number of countries, Australia included.

Both the disc and digital variants of Sony’s latest PlayStation console will see a $50 increase, with Sony stating the increase is a result of global economic challenges, including high inflation rates and “adverse currency trends.” The pressures on supply chains worldwide and the rising cost of components have been well documented, and Sony says that although it was a difficult decision to make, the increase “is a necessity given the current global economic environment and its impact on SIE’s business.”

The price hike is effective immediately and will see the price of a disc drive PS5 now $799.95 (up from $749.95), while the digital PS5 will now set you back $649.95 (up from $599.95).

Despite the increase, Sony’s priority is improving the supply of consoles, which has been an issue since they launched in November 2020.

Other countries to receive a price increase are Japan, China, Mexico, Canada, as well as the UK and Europe.
