Nintendo and Universal Studios have announced that the Donkey Kong expansion to Super Nintendo World Japan will finally open on December 11.
In a dedicated Direct livestream that aired this morning, legendary Nintendo developer Shigeru Miyamoto took viewers on a guided tour of the new area of the theme park. Sporting a tropical theme, the area is littered with interactable elements that respond to the Power-Up Bands used throughout the park. Miyamoto gives an example by collecting the K letter panel by waving his wrist over a nearby reader.
We also see Miyamoto demonstrate one of the area’s challenges by teaming up with two park staff to drum along on bongos to flashing lights, with Rambi the Rhino appearing once the challenge was met. After a look around the area, including DK’s hut and a photo opportunity with the big man himself, we get a brief glimpse at the mine cart ride that serves as the section’s main attraction.
