Return To Monkey Island Has Been Announced 31 Years After LeChuck’s Revenge

What a comeback

A full 31 years after the release of Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge, Terrible Toybox, Devolver Digital and Lucasfilm Games have announced Return to Monkey Island.

A sequel to 1991’s LeChuck’s Revenge, Return to Monkey Island is being developed by Terrible Toybox, led by series creator Ron Gilbert and franchise veteran Dave Grossman. Written by Gilbert and Grossman, the short teaser trailer also confirms that the iconic Guybrush Threepwood will again be voiced by Dominic Armato. The game is set to release this year, though no further details have been given at this stage.

The return of this point-and-click juggernaut will likely put a smile on many faces this morning, especially with a 2022 release date ensuring that fans don’t have to wait much longer. Ron Gilbert shared the announcement trailer on Twitter this morning, confirming that Terrible Toys has been working on the sequel for two years now, managing to keep to project a secret while doing so.
