Playdate manufacturer Panic has confirmed that the handheld console’s 2021 allotment of 20,000 units sold out in under 20 minutes (17 minutes to be exact).
Pre-orders for the Playdate went live on July 30, 3am AEST and there appears to be no shortage of interest at this stage. However, Panic has said previously that 2022 production will be scaled by demand, with pre-orders for 2022 still available via the website.
There is no set release date for the Playdate as of yet, but Panic has said that pre-orders will ship in late 2021.
Furthermore, Panic has revealed that they will be releasing the SDK for the Playdate, so anyone with the handheld crank-wielding console can develop games for it.
Some fun facts:
• Yes, 20,000 Playdates sold in 17 minutes (!!)
