Some absolutely bonkers sales numbers have been listed via a report on VGChartz, detailing a positively enormous spike of sales for the PlayStation 5 console.
For the month of February 2023, the PS5 absolutely dominated console sales with an estimated 652,210 units sold – bringing the total lifetime sales estimate of the console to 15.26 million units in the Americas.
What makes this particularly impressive, is that the figure actually breaks an internal Sony sales record that has been held since 2005 – for the PlayStation 2. Back in those simpler times 533,000 (est.) units were sold during February.

Other consoles had a decent sales push as well, with the Nintendo Switch selling an estimated 380,077 units and the Xbox Series S|X selling a similar figure – coming in at 317,633 units sold for the month.
As for the reasoning behind the sales, it’s a bit of a mixed bag. Some report that stock availability finally equalised to the ongoing demand, while others cite the upcoming titles of February/March to maybe be the clincher that pushed people to get off the fence and whip out the credit card.
Either way, it is a phenomenal amount of consoles sold – so surely a PlayStation 5 Pro model announcement is imminent.
