Nightdive Studios Has Revealed A Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster

Hope you aim better than a Storm Trooper

Nightdive Studios, the talented developer folks behind quite a few remasters (and an outright remake of System Shock) have announced that they are bringing us a remaster of the 1995 classic Star Wars: Dark Forces.

Dark Forces was originally released for MS-DOS, so to say it is in need of a bit of modern love may well be an understatement – but the classic shooter was a banger back in the day, with a deep understanding of the Star Wars lore and a killer story that bridged a narrative gap for the Rebellion and their struggle against the Empire. Plus it introduced everyone’s favourite cool Jedi uncle, Kyle Katarn.

The remaster will feature a number of improvements over the original game courtesy of their in-house Kex engine, including:

  • Updated graphics
  • Modern gamepad support
  • Trophies and achievements
  • 4K resolution at 120FPS

That should tidy up this 28 year old title nicely, and give people a taste of some old school Star Wars storytelling – before podracers and all that midi-chlorians malarkey.

Right now the only release details given are “later this year”, so let us all pray together that they stay far away from October.
