On a day when so much gaming news is super awesome, there was one headline that had a slightly more sombre tone.
Friday the 13th: The Game is a game that delivered a pretty impressive Jason Voorhees simulator experience, pitting a group of counsellor nerds against the immortal killing machine. Sadly, the game is a little less immortal – having suffered a number of critical blows to it’s existence; before approaching it’s final death – being delisted from sale.

It’s fantastic to see that the game will be heavily discounted for it’s last hurrah – continuing to function until at least December 31, 2024. After that, it’s unsure if the game will become wholly dependent on private lobbies with no further matchmaking – or if the entire multiplayer experience will cease.
The game does still have solo content, in the form of unique Jason-centric challenges – and I would struggle to understand why such a thing would be deactivated. The game serves as a museum for the Friday the 13th franchise, so it’s loss is more than a little sad.
If you have never played the game, this may well be your last chance – even if you were to give it a squirt with mates for the it’s low low price.
Farewell Friday the 13th: The Game – you deserved so much better than what you got.
