The Mortal Kombat 1 panel has wrapped up at San Diego Comic Con, and with it comes all of the information you could ever hope for regarding the Year 2 release strategy for the game.
With new story chapters, another swathe of characters and a furry-yet-familiar range of fatalities, you can rest assured that the bloody realm of Kombat is far from over:

For those that kompleted the story campaign of Mortal Kombat 1, you know that in the final moments of the narrative you realise that everything is beyond messed up. Turns out that titanic versions of our heroes (and villains) exist in alternate timelines, and are very aware of each other – to the point of mostly wanting to eradicate others and claim their place as the most important being of space time.
Except for Havik. He just wants KHAOS.
And so the trailer shows how Liu Kang’s victory against the megalomaniacal Shang Tsung was just a prelude to a much more concerning baddie, being that Havik just wants to let his freak flag fly over every corner of reality – going so far as to even corrupt the already dick-ish Sub Zero into the even dicky-er Noob Saibot.
Which is as good of a prelude to introduce the new range of characters coming to the game – because you best believe Noob Saibot is one of them:

Kombat Pack 2 is the usual spread of returning Mortal Kombat characters and classic movie faces, with the roster expanding to include:
- Ghostface (of Scream fame)
- Noob Saibot
- Sektor
- Cyrax
- Conan (the Barbarian)
- T1000 (Terminator)
Many of these goofballs had been rumoured or even outright leaked through various means, but that doesn’t diminish the excitement to see them come to the bloody brawler. Ghostface rounds out the ongoing tradition of having a horror film character set up shop in the world of Mortal Kombat, while Arnold Schwarzenegger makes his second physical appearance as the Cimmerian warrior Conan.
The left field entry here is absolutely the T1000 from Terminator 2: Judgment Day – the liquid metal morphing goop-lord promises to be a visual delight as far as moveset goes. And there is already a ton of evidence to suggest that Robert Patrick is indeed providing the voiceover for him.
The other three characters are returning faces – if somewhat different. The original ketchup and mustard robot boys are back in the form of Cyrax and Sektor; only you can see that their altered timeline has jiggled the gender slider. They still look every bit as cool as their prior masculine counterparts, so I am on board to see the missiles and bombs fly once more.
Finally, the dark and edgy lord of the clones is back – with Noob Saibot returning to the roster. Noob Saibot is a character that has changed a great deal since his return in the Mortal Kombat 9 release, with each iteration being visually awesome and cool as heck to play in game. The brief glimpse of him doing his thang in the story trailer confirms that he is still creating clones and throwing shadow crap around, so I have no doubt he will at least play similarly to his Mortal Kombat 11 kounterpart. Awesome.
The last feature shown off in the trailer is the return of the Animality finishing moves – those goofy morphs where players would turn into an animal to savagely finish their opponent off. The only difference here is that now they are rendered in stunning high definition – so you can watch Mileena the Mantis devour an opponents head with every detail on display.
It’s a mammoth amount of content to come, so if you are still enjoying the MK1 experience you are very likely to be amped for what it to come. And perhaps if you jumped off the hype train a few stations back, this may be your ticket to return.
