Marvel Rivals Season 2: Hellfire Gala Is A Black Tie Event That Brings Emma Frost And Ultron To The Party

An invitation from the White Queen

Developer NetEase Games has announced Marvel Rivals Season 2: Hellfire Gala, which will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC beginning April 11.

The hero shooter’s second season will introduce two new characters: Emma Frost and Ultron. The psychic mutant will join the roster on April 11, and the villainous machine will be added with a mid-season update. Narratively, Emma Frost has invited the cast of characters to the mutant island of Krakoa for its annual celebration. Things are already rough, with all party guests stuck in the year 2099, thanks to a temporal storm, but they get worse when Ultron shows up, and he isn’t even wearing a suit.

Unlike the drip-feed information we got for last season, we already know Emma Frost’s gameplay details. Her character reveal trailer confirms that she will be a Vanguard, and a rather nasty one at that.

In her human form, the White Queen uses a beam of psychic energy to deal constant damage at a distance, while in her diamond form, she switches to become a melee damage dealer. In this hardened form, she takes reduced damage and can utilise a kick and a grab move that sends her opponents flying.

In her human form, she can lay down a totem that deals periodic AOE damage while also having the ability to create barriers to protect herself and her teammates from incoming damage. Her ultimate ability is going to be a rough one, with an area-of-effect attack dealing a small amount of damage over time while also persuading those caught in the area to move towards Frost. We see this used in the trailer to devastating effect, with three enemies caught in her grasp and walking straight off the map to their doom.

We don’t know what class Ultron will fit into or what his moveset will be, so we’ll need to wait and see for those details.
