Kena: Bridge Of Spirits Might Be My Favourite Surprise PlayStation 5 Reveal

Kena as a bena

Today’s PlayStation 5 “The Future of Gaming” live stream event was chock-full of reveals of never-before-seen games, from both existing franchises as well as brand new IP, but one stood out for myself (and the rest of the WellPlayed team) above the rest. That game is Kena: Bridge of Spirits.

Introduced by a brotherly team from developer Ember Lab, Kena is an action adventure game that looks equal parts The Legend of Zelda, Kubo and the Two Strings, Concrete Genie and all of the magical wonderment of a Ghibli film. That’s a stellar combo in my books, and while those comparisons are drawn all on my own judgement I’m sure that there’s a lot more to the game.

Ember Lab COO Josh Grier describes it best over on the PlayStation Blog:

Kena: Bridge of Spirits is a story-driven action adventure set in a charming world rich with exploration and fast-paced combat. Players find and grow a team of tiny spirit companions called the Rot, enhancing their abilities and creating new ways to manipulate the environment. Working with the support of Sony and the next-generation features of the PS5 gave us the opportunity to expand the immersive experience we envisioned and enhance the game’s unique play mechanics.

It’s no surprise that Ember Lab have a history in film and animation (they’re the people behind the amazing Majora’s Mask – Terrible Fate after all) because the game looks absolutely incredible. Check it out for yourself below:

No date for this one yet, but colour me incredibly keen.
