Another balance patch has been applied to Helldivers 2, mostly to target the discourse surrounding the impact of the previous balance patch. Y’see, weapons that were good at killing heavy enemies had some changes made – and the heavy enemies have been running a little too rampant. So in a nutshell, the developers at Arrowhead have:
- Reduced the overall spawn rates from “batshit” to just “bananas”
- Amended the head armour of the Charger enemies to be less hearty
So now there is less crazy stuff chasing you down, and you can kill them a bit easier. However, they also mentioned that the “reduced spawn rate” was not a reduction of bug numbers overall – mentioning, quote:
Expect other enemy types to appear in greater numbers instead
So sure, less big bugs and more “other” bugs. Only the sting is in the tail, because it turns out that a new scary enemy type has appeared in the skies:
Known as “Shriekers”, these flying gargoyles appear on maps as a unique enemy type – much like the stealthy “Stalkers”. They even have a unique hive structure to clue you in to their presence before they start swooping and clawing you like a chitinous magpie:
An amazing change to the game, given how it was presented. Oh, you don’t like our big scary charger bugs? Right, well you can have less of them. But here is something new and scary to give you the willies.
At least, that is how one would perceive it. Shrewd observers of all things Super-Earth related will tell you that there is no such thing as flying bugs. Take for example this quote from the Arrowhead CEO:
I've heard rumors of flying bugs in @helldivers2. I want to officially refute such preposterous claims.

Everyone knows that "Bugs can't fly".
And I'm not alone in thinking this. The Ministry of Truth agrees that this is propaganda from bug sympathizers that want to brainwash…
So there you have it. Nothing to fear or worry about according to those in power. Thank goodness for that.
Now if you will excuse me, I have to think of what gun might be good at air-shot for an unrelated reason.
