Developer Illfonic has announced Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, a four vs one asymmetric multiplayer game set in the Ghostbusters world.
In Spirits Unleashed, four players will take on the role of Ghostbuster, using Proton Packs, PKE Meters and Ghost Traps to capture a ghost and put an end to the haunting in the area. The other player will assume the spectral form of a ghost, using the ability of flight, teleportation and possession in an attempt to scare away everyone in the vicinity. The game will feature crossplay options as well as offline solo play with AI teammates and opponents.
Illfonic has a track record when it comes to asymmetric games, having previously released Friday the 13th and Predator: Hunting Grounds. These two games didn’t score tens, but they’re incredibly faithful to the source material and are a whole bunch of fun.
Between matches, players will get the chance to hang out in the iconic Firehouse, giving you the chance to tweak your characters and set up your gear. Additionally, you’ll be able to interact with classic characters Winston Zeddemore and Ray Stantz, voiced by Ernie Hudson and Dan Aykroyd respectively, lending some legitimacy to the overall experience.
Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed is set to release on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC in Q4 2022.
