May 6 is Free Comic Book Day, a holiday that really doesn’t need much explanation.
And how fitting that our webslinger friend(s) will get a groovy lead-in comic to introduce the upcoming Marvel’s Spider-Man 2:

Writer Christos Gage has worked to pen the story – a name that is familiar for those that scanned the credits of Marvel’s Spider-Man – and art that is downright gorgeous thanks to the talents of Ig Guara.
And the story? Well, it’s that delightful slice of fried gold that makes Spidey so appealing – the ol’ WORK and LIFE balance that comes with webslinging:
In this story, their lives collide as Peter, Miles, and MJ attempt to balance their responsibilities to the city, and each other. They keep coming back to one of the main themes of the comic: is magic real? Because in this action-packed issue, a beloved Super Villain makes their first appearance in our universe and appears to have supernatural abilities that defy mere webs and fists: none other than The Hood!
The only bummer is that the post does mention that “Fans in the US can visit a participating comic book store” so it seems unlikely that Aussie comic book fans can grab it, however in my personal experience in the past I have been surprised by the tenacity of our local ink-slingers in their efforts to get stuff that was described as US only, so your experiences may vary.
The good news is that the story will be available digitally so you don’t need to stress about missing out.
With Marvel Spider-Man 2 finally on our horizon, this is a great little taste for what is to come – and for the low price of zero all you’ll really be handing over is your time to visit your local comic book emporium. And while you are there, why not grab some more free comics? Reading is radical!
