Evil West Drops A Second Brutal Gameplay Trailer

Superman punching supernatural punks

Focus Entertainment has dropped another 13 exciting minutes of gameplay footage from Flying Wild Hog’s upcoming supernatural cowboy action fiesta Evil West.

This trailer doesn’t shy away from narrative elements, showing vampire hunter Jesse Rentier arriving at the nerve centre of their organisation to drop off a bounty before a fairly dramatic attack on the compound results in everything going to shit. What follows is a brilliant segment of gameplay where you are tracking down Jesse’s father (also a member of the organisation) before running into the threat that caused the attack – who is rightly terrifying in how easily she manages to subdue Jesse.

With any action game that strongly leans into ranged combat, I am always concerned about two things. The first is movement – whether the game leans into being ponderously slow and meticulous to better prop up the gunplay; a technique that I always feel is a bit crutch-like for a developer that may be struggling with making their bang bang action feel compelling.

The other is what happens when enemies eventually fall into your melee range – is it a deadzone? Is it time for you to get pantsed and punished for not shooting better?

Well the good news is that Evil West is clearly embracing all forms of brutal bloodshed, with a massive amount of options for both movement and melee. The fact that you can literally ‘superman punch’ supernatural punks is thrilling – and your zapper bracer allows you to both drag nerds closer to your fist, as well as take your bad self right up to their face for a beatdown.

Evil West is doing a wondrous effort in tickling every hype worthy fibre of my being, establishing itself as a very promising new IP.

Evil West will release on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC on November 22.
