Hot off the heels of this morning’s Nintendo Direct, we’ve got a brand new State of Play to dive into, focusing primarily on games from Japanese developers. Little has been said about what to expect, but we know that games for PS5, PS4 and PS VR2 will be present, so let’s hope this stealthy State of Play is a banger.
Here are all of the announcements made during the September 2022 PlayStation State of Play:
Tekken 8
Kicking things off (see what I did there), we got the announcement of Tekken 8. The stylish trailer shows Jin and Kazuya bashing three shades out of each other in the rain. This slick trailer is comprised of in-game footage, taken directly from the story mode, so get keen. Confirmed for PS5, we don’t have a release window just yet.
Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge – Enhanced Edition
A VR Star Wars experience based around Disney’s Galaxy’s Edge theme park; Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge is making its way to PS VR2, along with familiar faces and plenty of action. We see C-3PO, R2-D2 and even the scoundrel himself, Hondo Ohnaka. Tales from Galaxy’s Edge will be released on PS VR2 in 2023.
Demeo
An RPG dungeon crawler with swords, magic and mayhem on a tabletop. Demeo is a PS VR2 title that looks as though it will evoke the feeling of sitting around a table, playing D&D with your mates. Plenty of action, plenty of fun. We don’t have any set release info on this one, but we know it’s coming to PS VR2.
Like a Dragon: Ishin!
From developers of Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Like a Dragon: Ishin! is a historical action-adventure title set in 1860s Kyo, Japan. This spin-off of the Yakuza series has only ever been released in Japan, so this remake/remaster/re-release will make many fans of the series very happy. Coming February 2023.
Hogwarts Legacy
A new trailer for Hogwarts Legacy continued to show us the darker secrets that will be found within the Wizarding World. This trailer introduces the Haunted Hogsmeade Shop mission, a quest exclusive to PlayStation. Hogwarts Legacy releases on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|X, Xbox One and PC on February 10.
Pacific Drive
This is one road trip that I wouldn’t be too keen on taking. Pacific Drive is a first-person driving survival game that sees players attempting to survive the Olympic Exclusion Zone. We see the player bombing through a post-apocalyptic landscape, with dangers looking to run them off the road in every direction. Coming in 2023 to PS5.
PlayStation Stars
We got our first look at the digital collectables that can be earned through the new reward systems. From Ape Escape to miniature consoles, some cool little trinkets were shown off, but they do seem awfully similar to NFTs, don’t they? The PlayStation Stars program is set to launch in Japan later this month, with other regions following later.
Synduality
If you’re a fan of mechs, you’ll be pleased with this announcement. Synduality is a sci-fi third-person shooter that sees you embark on a journey across a dystopian world known as Amasia. Piloting a capable mech and joined by an AI partner, you’ll be tasked with facing numerous threats and challenges. Coming in 2023.
Stellar Blade
Previously announced under the title Project Eve, the official title is now Stellar Blade. We see the player character Eve kicking all kinds of ass with melee weapons and guns as she takes it to horrific enemies. The action will begin in 2023, when Stellar Blade launches as a PS5 console exclusive.
Rise of the Ronin
Developed by Team Ninja, Rise of the Ronin is a new action-adventure RPG that has you playing as a Ronin as they find their way in a new era for Japan. We get to see some slick combat and traversal abilities and several bright and interesting locations. This one will be a PS5 console exclusive when it releases in 2024.
God of War Ragnarök PS5 Controller
A limited-edition DualSense controller will launch alongside God of War Ragnarok, with a two-tone blue and white colour scheme and wolf insignias representing Kratos and Atreus on the touch pad. It’s understated, that’s for sure.
God of War Ragnarök
An excellent new trailer gives us an interaction between Kratos and Tyr, as well as a mysterious stranger. Atreus has grown, and so too have the threats standing between our protagonists and their goal. To say that this trailer brings my hype to a fever pitch is an understatement, so give it a watch.
