Without E3 around this year, Geoff Keighley has stepped in once again to make sure that gaming Christmas doesn’t get cancelled. The man himself has been managing expectations in the lead up to this morning’s event, saying that most of the titles on the show have been announced previously, but that hasn’t lessened the excitement levels at all. Beginning at the ungodly hour of 4am AEST, let’s take a look and see whether or not that early alarm was worth setting.
Here’s everything that was announced during Summer Game Fest 2022 (we will have the listed updated as soon as possibly, it’s very early):
Street Fighter 6
Opening the show was a gameplay trailer for Street Fighter 6, unveiling the fan-favourite character Guile. Regardless of the fact that the full character roster leaked earlier this week, it didn’t take away from this cool new trailer. Taking place on a cool aircraft carrier stage, the flat-topped ass-kicker is shown doing what he does best. Street Fighter 6 launches in 2023 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC.
Aliens: Dark Descent
The first new announcement of the show was Aliens: Dark Descent unveiled with a spooky cinematic trailer. Set in the Alien universe, Dark Descent is a squad-based single-player action game that will have players leading their team through real-time battles against Xenomorphs and other unspeakable horrors. Releasing on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series, Xbox One and PC in 2023.
The Callisto Protocol
Next up, we got our first proper look at gameplay for The Callisto Protocol, the eerie third-person horror game that recently got a release date. The trailer shows off gameplay very reminiscent of Dead Space, in a very positive way. Dismemberment and brutal combat against nasty enemies are both present, capped off with an ending that saw the protagonist lose a battle against an industrial fan. The Callisto Protocol will launch on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC on December 2.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II
Following yesterday’s gameplay reveal, we got an extended look at the Dark Water mission from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II. Moving between an oil rig and a ship, the player character takes place in an exciting firefight, with shipping containers dangerously moving around on the ship, shifting cover and creating hazards. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II will release on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC on October 28.
Flashback 2
Talk about a long time between drinks. A sequel to the 1992 original, Flashback 2 will continue the story of Conrad and his fight against The Morphs.
Witchfire
In a move that got Zach Jackson hot under the collar, we got a new look at Witchfire, the supernatural first-person shooter from Polish studio The Astronauts. We see the player character battle it out against undead foes using a range of different cool weapons like a quick-firing crossbow. Witchfire will be coming to early access on the Epic Games Store soon.
Fort Solis
New studio Fallen Leaf revealed the first game, Fort Solis, with a slick cinematic trailer. Featuring voice work from Troy Baker and Roger Clark. Fort Solis is a narrative-driven thriller set on Mars. The trailer is tense and we’re keen to see more.
Routine
Well, I didn’t see this one coming. Originally announced almost a decade ago, the sci-fi horror game Routine has been re-revealed. Set on a lunar base, Routine will have players surviving against mechanical threats after the facility goes quiet.
Outriders Worldslayer
A new trailer for Outriders Worldslayer showed off more of the expansion’s new content, as well as the destruction that’s possible if your team works together. Outriders Worldslayer releases on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC on June 30.
Stormgate
From Frost Giant Studios, we got the announcement of Stormgate, a new real-time strategy game coming in 2023. A cinematic trailer shows the Human Resistance take on the Infernal Host, two of the game’s playable factions. It was also announced that Stormgate will feature 1v1 and 3v3 competitive matches, PVE and PVP, so RTS fans should have plenty to get excited about.
Highwater
Set in a world ravaged by climate change, Highwater is a narrative-driven isometric survival game from Demagog, the studio behind Golf Club Wasteland. The short announcement trailer gave us a look at the game’s beautiful visuals and flooded world.
American Arcadia
Set in a 70s retro-futuristic city where everyone’s lives are being broadcast live, America Arcadia is a single-player game of two halves, where players will switch between a 2.5D platformer and a first-person puzzler.
Goat Simulator 3
Directly taking the piss and spoofing the Dead Island 2 trailer, we got the announcement of Goat Simulator 3. The “completely realistic” look at what it is to be a goat is returning, with new mini-games and crazy shenanigans. Releasing on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC in 2022.
Marvel’s Midnight Suns
Marvel’s Midnight Suns, the tactical RPG from XCOM studio Firaxis Games has been given a cool new trailer and an October 7 release date. The game is coming to PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC.
Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course
With the release of the long-awaited DLC around the corner on June 30, we got a new look at gameplay for Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course, showing Ms. Chalice taking on a brand new boss.
Neon White
A single-player, card-based first-person shooter, Neon White got a new trailer and a release date. Neon White is coming to Switch and PC on June 16.
Midnight Fight Express
A new trailer for the brutal brawler Midnight Fight Express showed off more of the game’s intense action. Better still, we got the reveal that the game is releasing on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch and PC on August 23.
Warframe
We got a brief teaser for Warframe The Duviri Paradox and the promise of more details to come during TennoCon 2022 on June 17.
Honkai: Star Rail
The newest game from Genshin Impact developer HoYoverse, Honkai: Star Rail is a tactical RPG set in a sci-fi universe. We got a stylish new trailer here, but no confirmed release info.
Zenless Zone Zero
Back to back announcements from HoYoverse, this time we got a new look at Zenless Zone Zero, an action RPG with some very flashy combat and cool looking characters.
TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge
Cowabunga! We got a new trailer for TMNT: Shedder’s Revenge, unveiling the hockey mask-wear Casey Jones as a playable character. The brawler continues to look great, which is handy because it was announced that it’ll be releasing on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One Switch and PC on June 16.
Humankind
The turn-based strategy game Humankind came packing two announcements. Firstly, the game will be making its way to PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One on November 4 and secondly, a new DLC pack titled Cultures of Latin America is on the way.
One Piece Odyssey
No, we didn’t get a release date, but what we did get was an awesome new trailer for One Piece Odyssey, the upcoming JRPG. Introducing all of the Straw Hat Pirates in anime into style, we also got a few snippets of gameplay, showing the heroes exploring some dangerous cave systems.
Metal: Hellsinger
The previously announced twitch shooter Metal: Hellsinger is almost within reach, releasing on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC on September 13. If that’s too far away and you want to listen to heavy metal and blast enemies into small chunks now, you can play the free demo that’s available for all consoles.
The Quarry
It’s out now but here’s the launch trailer for Supermassive Games’ Until Dawn spiritual successor. Campy 80s horror game for the weekend sorted.
Nightingale
The intriguing and visually impressive survival game Nightingale got a new trailer that touches on the title’s crafting and portal systems. We still don’t have an exact release date for this one yet, but we can expect it to launch on PC later this year.
Saints Row
Well, if you thought the initial announcement for Saints Row was a little tame for the series, this should put your mind at ease. Focusing on the Boss Factory feature that lets you customise your very own monstrous leader of the Saints, this trailer leans into the absurdity we know and love. The Boss factory can is available for players to play around with right now and you can read more about the feature in our preview HERE. Saints Row will launch on August 23 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC.
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide
Fans of Vermintide will be very happy to see this next trailer, as we got an extended look at gameplay for Warhammer 40,000: Darktide. Showing some dark and foreboding locations, a team of four players wade through waves of enemies in a glorious first-person perspective. Warhammer 40,000: Darktide releases on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC on September 13.
Layers of Fears
It seems game devs are having more trouble thinking of titles than ever before, first Call of Duty and now Bloober Team, who revealed Layers of Fears, but a new one. Same name, new game. It’s being developed in Unreal Engine 5, coming in early 2023 and it looks promising.
Gotham Knights
The Last of Us Multiplayer Project
Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann joined snazzy Geoff on stage and teased the company’s The Last of Us multiplayer project with a concept art picture. It’s set in San Francisco, Neil says it’s big – bigger than their single-player games – but they’re not quite ready to show it off. Lots of info coming in 2023.
The Last of Us Part I
Speaking of naughty dogs, someone spoiled Geoff’s finale leaking it earlier in the day, despite that it was still good viewing. The Last of Us Part I has been rebuilt for the PS5 and will be the definitive version of the original game. Launching on September 2, it’s also coming to PC at a later date, so get your rig ready.
