Earnings calls might not be as exciting as your E3s and Gamescoms, but they can offer up some slices of news that are worth paying attention to. We’ve already had a peek behind the Battlefield curtain during an EA earnings call and now it’s Activision-Blizzards turn to cough up the goods.
This time around the news isn’t quite as exciting, as we’ve learned, through Activision-Blizzards earnings call, that two of their biggest upcoming games are likely to stay in that upcoming state for a while yet. Investors were told that Diablo IV and Overwatch 2 weren’t expected to release in 2021 despite both games “progressing well”. This isn’t exactly a shocking revelation in regards to Diablo IV as it was only announced in November of last year, but the same can’t be said for Overwatch 2.
While it’s true that the game was announced on the same day as Diablo 4, it looked as though we were in line for some big news at this years Blizzcon, according to a developer update from Jeff Kaplan last December. Whereas before it seemed like a release date might be heading our way, it seems more likely that the Blizzcon announcement will be gameplay-related or it might just be a new trailer, we’ll have to wait and see.
