Publisher 2K and developer Gearbox Software have announced Borderlands 4, which will be released on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in 2025.
Kicking off Gamescom Opening Night Live was the reveal of the next numbered Borderlands title. The teaser trailer is short and cryptic, with a mysterious hand picking up a psycho mask that had fallen from orbit following a disastrous planetary collision. Details are thin at the moment, but the press release does tell us that this next instalment will take place on an entirely new planet, with the story picking up after the events of the third game.

The Borderlands IP is on fire at the moment. No, not on fire in a good way, but in a concerning way. The Borderlands film hit cinemas a few weeks back, and both the critical and commercial results are dire. Driving home the point further, it was announced that the bomb of a movie would be hitting digital platforms on August 30, less than a month after its cinema release. Yeah, so I’m guessing Gearbox and Randy Pitchford (and his X account) hope this announcement helps wash the bad taste out of our collective mouth.
