EA and DICE have revealed the details for Battlefield 2042‘s sixth season, titled Dark Creations, which is set to go live on October 10.
Similarly to previous seasons, Dark Creations will bring with it a range of new weapons and gadgets, as well as a wild new vehicle, but the star of the show looks like it’ll be the fresh new map. Oh, and don’t forget the all-important battle pass and host of new cosmetics as well as a boatload of fixes and general improvements.
I won’t bury the lead at all here, this season’s map is by far the most exciting new addition on paper. Named Redacted, this close-quarters map will be 2042’s first infantry-only affair, taking place completely indoors. DICE has likened this claustrophobic, corridor-heavy map to the likes of Operation Metro and Operation Locker, so if it can provide a similar experience, we’re in for a good time. Set within a research facility in Scotland, it looks like we can expect some grisly scenes, as things look to have gone south at this secret location.
The content drop will also include three new weapons to play around with. Firstly, the VHX D3 is a bullpup assault rifle that’s small in size and ready for close-to-medium range combat. For those looking to hang back, the G428 is a high-powered DMR that promises to chew through cover with precision. Lastly, we’re getting a new sidearm in the L9Cz, a semi-auto pistol with high accuracy, perfect for those goblins who run around with a shotgun.
Let’s talk gadgets. Pouches are back, in a health and ammo variety, letting you quickly dish out resources to your teammates without them needing to pick them up or stand in a particular spot. Okay, it’s time to discuss the new vehicle. The YUV-2, or Pondhawk to its friends, is a two-person bike that can quickly whisk you across the battlefield. Oh, but instead of conventional wheels, it has rotor blades like a helicopter. Yes, I’m serious.
The Dark Creations will throw over 100 tiers of unlockables at you, with a new Ultimate Pack unlocking the premium tiers and giving you a boost in progression speed. Importantly, all of the gameplay items will be free, so there’s no need to shell out cash if you just want the new weapons. Wrapping things up with some quality-of-life changes, this season’s update will be balancing aim assist for console players, reworking a few Operator abilities and tweaking some vehicle handling.
