All Of Payday 3’s DLC Will Launch On Consoles And PC On The Same Date

No platform left behind

In news that is sure to please console heisters, Starbreeze Studios has confirmed that all of Payday 3‘s DLC will not only launch on both consoles and PC, but it will do so on the same date.

As someone who played Payday 2 exclusively on console, I eventually gave up on the game after missing out on so much DLC. For context, the PC version of Payday 2 has 77 heists, while consoles have only received 21. Then there’s all the other DLC, such as character and weapon packs, that never made their way to consoles.

I recently spoke with Payday 3’s interim game director Per Storløkken about Payday 2’s lack of parity and whether Payday 3 would rectify this. He confirmed that the goal is for all of Payday 3’s DLC to hit all platforms on the same date. Storlokken explained that due to Payday 2’s aging engine, it became too hard to keep updating the engine for consoles, but now that the team is developing Payday 3 on Unreal Engine 4, it will be much easier for the team to develop for multiple platforms.

Knowing how much fun I had playing Payday 2, this news has me super excited for Payday 3, and given that Payday 3 will support crossplay and cross-progression, this seems like the obvious (and right) move for Starbreze to make.

After my chat with Storløkken, Starbreeze published a second Dev Diary video which gave further insight into the company’s

Almir Listo, the game’s global brand director, admitted that console players had it rough during Payday 2 and that the studio wanted to learn from the mistakes of the past.

“The history of the console editions of Payday 2 is the rockiest of roads that we have had. Speaking of bumps in the road, our console heisters have gotten the brunt of it really, and I think it’s super unfortunate because a fact is they do not deserve it.”

Payday 3’s Executive Producer Craig McLeod said that for the studio, “the most important thing is keeping the community together,” and that the console versions of Payday 3 are “first and foremost in our minds because we’re very conscious that they were dropped previously.”

While it’s great to see Starbreeze take responsibility for the disappointing console experience on Payday 2, time will tell whether they can deliver on the promise to make console players happy heisters this time around.

I recently went hands-on with Payday 3 and found that while the improvements are minimal, it’s just as fun as it always is.

Payday 3 launches on September 21 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
