AFL 23 is currently averaging less than 100 players a day on Steam, with the game losing more than half its players since launching on May 4.
The data was provided by the game’s Steam dB page, which shows that on launch, AFL 23 had more than 350 players. Since then, the game’s playerbase has declined significantly, with the game peaking at 88 players over the past week.
The game’s dwindling playerbase would have to be a concern for Big Ant Studios, especially given that the Xbox version still hasn’t launched, making other platforms, like Steam, more attractive.
Launching to a mostly negative reception due to bug-riddled gameplay, broken online play and missing features and modes, such as Pro Team, which is still only in the testing phase according to Big Ant Studios, the game has had to come from a long way back. The Melbourne-based studio has improved the experience somewhat, and currently on Steam, AFL 23 has a Mixed rating. Hopefully, as the game continues to improve and once more features are introduced we will see an increase in players.
