Much like the trek from The Shire to Mount Doom, the wait for Lord of the Rings: Gollum is a marathon, not a sprint. Announced back in 2019, we’ve seen little bits and pieces of this stealth-action game from German developer Daedalic Entertainment, including a number of screenshots and a trailer that shows a slice of gameplay.
Today (July 7), during NACON’s Connect event, a new trailer for Gollum was revealed that not only gives us a better glimpse at the stealth and platforming gameplay but also pulls back the curtain on a number of the game’s environments and character designs. Narrated by Harald Riegler, Producer at Daedalic Entertainment, the trailer shows off the faithful recreations of Mirkwood and Mordor that are said to be very closely designed to match the descriptions from the books.
Also revealed were the character models for the Mouth of Sauron, Thranduil and Gandalf, all of which are based on their likeness from the original books. The art style reminds me of a storybook, which looks gorgeous and also makes sense in this context. Give the trailer a watch:
Lord of the Rings: Gollum is set to release on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Switch and PC in 2022.
