Respawn Entertainment has dropped a gameplay trailer for Apex Legends Season 12 – Defiance, detailing the Control LTM, Mad Maggie’s abilities and the changes being made to the Olympus map.
Following on from the launch trailer, this gameplay trailer for Season 12 kicks off by detailing the new Limited-Time Mode, Control. Shaking up the formula considerably, Control will feature two teams of nine Legends, battling to control three zones on mode-specific maps. Players will pick their Legend and choose from a number of loadouts, before being dropped into the action. Once a team controls a zone, they’ll be rewarded with a number of points per second, with that number rising as more zones are controlled.
The first team to reach 1,250 points will take out the game, but that’s not the only way to win. If your team can successfully capture all three zones, the game will go into Lockout, where a countdown will begin. If the opposing team is unable to retake a zone before the counter reaches zero, you’ve bagged yourself the win.
Unlike the Battle Royale or Arenas modes, in Control you’ll respawn when you die. It’s worth trying to stick around though, as the longer you live and the more points you acquire, the better gear you’ll be given.
Of course, the gameplay trailer was about more than just Control. Here we got our first proper look at what new Legend Mad Maggie will be bringing to the games. Thanks to this trailer and a breakdown on the Apex website, we now know what abilities this badarse from Salvo will be packing.
Maggie’s Tactical, Riot Drill, is a projectile that can burn through objects and blasts fire at enemies taking cover, while her Passive, Warlord’s Eye, increases her movement speed while using a shotgun and highlights enemies that she’s damaged temporarily. The start of the show is her Ultimate, Wrecking Ball, which does exactly what it says on the tin. Using her Ult, Maggie unleashes a huge wrecking ball that detonates near enemies and leaves boost pads in its wake.
All in all, Mad Maggie looks like she will be great fun to play as and will be a demon in a firefight.
Lastly, the serene Olympus map is getting somewhat of a facelift. Having been dropped out of the sky by Duardo Silva, Olympus has seen a bit of a shake-up, with objects and points of interest being phased around the place. Featuring a huge new area in the form of Phase Driver and a number of tweaks to the surrounding areas, Olympus will still be pretty, but a pretty mess.
Give the gameplay trailer a watch:
Don’t forget, the beginning of Season 12 will also be the start of Apex’s Third Year Anniversary, where you’ll be able to snag three free Legends and a bunch of Apex Packs.
Apex Legends Season 12 – Defiance kicks off on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch and PC from February 8.
